Africa’s data centres are at critical stage thanks to digital transformation

Rack Centre, the leading carrier neutral data centre operator in West Africa, will be showcasing its expertise at the virtual Datacloud Africa Leadership Summit 2020. As an associate sponsor, Rack Centre says that these summits present an important opportunity for the company to share the immense growth and diversity of its Nigerian ecosystem, and the significance of this to the burgeoning West African region.

Tim Parsonson, Board Chairman of Rack Centre, who is a guest speaker, will be dissecting the challenges and opportunities investing in digital infrastructure in Africa with other industry experts and successful investors on Monday, 28 September 2020, 11:10 (GMT+1). This virtual event takes place over two days and promises to be insightful and beneficial to those deploying and investing in digital infrastructure across the African continent.

The event will enable participants to explore how the growing appetite for digital services, particularly cloud, mobile and content is creating a more hospitable atmosphere for data centre providers. As well as discovering how hyperscale and cloud buildouts are stimulating further demand and fueling infrastructure provision.

Dr Ayotunde Coker, Managing Director of Rack Centre, will also address how 3G, 4G and even 5G instalments are improving opportunities for data centres: “I will be discussing the role and impact of CDNs, such as Akamai, and Content providers, such as Netflix and Facebook in building up connectivity infrastructure along the coast and into the interior, while also looking at how the Edge is being deployed in Africa.”

Presenting at 15:30 (GMT+1) on Tuesday, 29 September 2020, Coker says that it is important to understand what the tangible impacts of these investments are, among other trends such as Digital Transformation, IoT and AI for carrier neutral colocation and wholesale demand. In an interactive Q&A at the Datacloud Africa Leadership Summit, Coker will take a look at some of the trends that are generating a demand for increasingly efficient infrastructure and connectivity capabilities.
